These terms apply when you use Dettalo at dettalo.com and when you order a transcript. If you order as a consumer, nothing here takes away the rights you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.

The short version

  • You upload an audio or video file and read the first 2 minutes of its transcript for free. Then you decide whether to order.
  • You pay once per file. There is no subscription and no account.
  • Each order includes two versions of the transcript (verbatim and edited), each as Word, TXT and Markdown: 6 files.
  • We email you a private link to your files. Anyone with the link can open them, so keep it private.
  • Transcripts are made by speech-recognition software and edited by AI. Check them before you rely on them.
  • Not happy? Within 7 days you get a full refund with one click on your order page. No reason needed.

1. Who we are

2. The service

We turn speech in your audio or video files into text:

  • Verbatim version: every word as the speech-recognition service heard it, with speaker labels and timestamps.
  • Edited version: the same text with clear recognition errors corrected, filler words removed, paragraphs, headings, a summary and a list of every change. Nothing is added to what was said.

Files can be up to 3 hours long and up to 2 GB. Speech recognition is never perfect: names, crosstalk, noise and strong accents cause errors. The free preview lets you judge the quality on your own recording before you pay.

3. Your files

You may only upload recordings you are allowed to use and have transcribed. You keep all rights in your recordings and transcripts; we claim none. We use your files only to provide the service (see the Privacy Policy).

4. Ordering and payment

  1. You upload a file and read the free preview.
  2. You enter your email address and click the order button. We take you to Stripe Checkout, the secure payment page of our payment provider, Stripe. There you see the price and can cancel.
  3. The contract is concluded when you complete payment.

The price is the one shown on our page and on the Stripe page before you pay. Card payments are only authorised at checkout and charged once your transcript has passed our automatic check; if we can't transcribe the file, the authorisation is released and you pay nothing. Payment methods that can't be authorised first (for example Alipay, WeChat Pay or iDEAL) are charged at once and refunded automatically if the transcription fails.

5. Delivery

We start right after payment. A 1-hour recording usually takes about 10 minutes. When the transcript is ready, we email you the link to your order page, where you confirm the speaker names and download the files. Your files stay available for 60 days after the order; then they are deleted. If you lose the link, you can have it sent again to the email you paid with.

6. Refunds

Within 7 days of the order you can get a full refund on your order page, without giving a reason. The refund goes back to the payment method you used; your files are deleted at once. More in Refunds.

7. Liability

We provide the service with care, but we can't guarantee an error-free transcript. Check the text before you publish it or rely on it, especially names, numbers and quotes. Our liability is limited to the price you paid for the order concerned, except where the law does not allow such a limit (for example for intent, gross negligence or injury to life and health).
