Interviewer

So, um, how did you, how did you start the bakery?

Lucia

Well, I I started in 2019 with, uh, one oven and my friend Marco Bell Lucci. The first year was really hard.

Edited Corrected, laid out, with headings and a summary. Nothing added.

How it started

Interviewer

So, how did you start the bakery?

Lucia

Well, I started in 2019 with one oven and my friend Marco Bellucci. The first year was really hard.

The names you type in fix the spelling: “Marco Bell Lucci” becomes “Marco Bellucci”.

Only the sound track is transcribed

Dettalo transcribes what people say in your video, not what is on screen. That covers most videos with talking in them: a recorded webinar, a Zoom or Teams meeting saved as MP4, a filmed interview, a lecture recording, a panel discussion, a vlog. Every speaker is labeled across the whole video, up to 32 speakers, and keeps the same label from start to finish.

Upload the file, not a link

Links to YouTube and other video sites are not supported. You need the video file on your computer or phone: the original from your camera or phone, the export from your editing software, or the recording downloaded from your meeting tool. Files can be up to 3 hours or 2 GB.

Is your video larger than 2 GB? Export only the audio, as MP3 or M4A, and upload that. Only the sound is transcribed anyway.

What you get back

Text documents, not subtitle files:

  • The verbatim transcript gives every paragraph a speaker and a timestamp, so you can jump to the right moment in the video to check a quote.
  • The edited transcript has headings, a short summary and key points: a starting point for show notes, a video description, meeting minutes or an article.

Each comes as Word, TXT and Markdown.

Before you upload

  • Trim a long intro. The preview covers the first 2 minutes of the file. If your video opens with titles or music, cut them first, so the preview shows people talking.
  • Watch for background music. Music and noise under the voices cause more recognition errors. The preview shows you how much.
  • Tell us who speaks. Say how many people talk, and type up to 60 names and terms (guests, brands, places, jargon) to get them spelled right.

A 1-hour video is usually ready in about 10 minutes. You can close the page: we email you when it is done. See the accuracy page for what to expect from the recognition, and transcribe a voice recording for phone recordings and voice notes.

Questions and answers

Can I paste a YouTube link instead of uploading a file?

No. Dettalo only transcribes files you upload. Links to YouTube or other video sites are not supported. If the video is yours, upload the original file from your computer or phone.

Which video formats can I upload?

MP4, MOV, WEBM and more, up to 3 hours or 2 GB per file. Audio files work too: MP3, M4A, WAV and others.

My video is larger than 2 GB. What can I do?

Only the sound is transcribed, so export the audio as an MP3 or M4A file and upload that instead. Videos longer than 3 hours need to be split into parts; each part is a separate file.

Do I get subtitle files?

No. You get two transcripts, verbatim and edited, each as Word, TXT and Markdown. The verbatim version has a timestamp for every paragraph, so you can find each passage in the video.

Is text shown on screen transcribed?

No. Only what is said is transcribed. Slides, captions and other text in the picture don't appear in the transcript unless someone reads them out.

What does it cost to transcribe a video?

$8.90 per video, up to 3 hours, whatever the length. One payment, no subscription, no account. A 1-hour video is usually ready in about 10 minutes.
